Hey Guys!
February, 16 20106 CommentsWhat a whirlwind I have been living in for the last few months. I
remodeled a basement, went on tour, led worship at church,
Building started a new record, I got sick, I got better and now I’m
blessed to be resting at home for a few short days before I head back
out on the road again. Now there’s no way for me to bring you
completely up to speed but I will say this. The tour has been amazing
and all of us in the band agree that it is the best tour we’ve ever
assembled in our career. Chris and Conrad, Mikeschair, Britt Nicole,
and Building429 for $5 bucks has been a hit on the road and we have
never been more pushed as a band as we have been on this tour. It’s
just nice to have that amazing of a line-up…. it’s nice right until
you realize that you have to go on after all of those guys.. and then
for a few moments it can get in your head. Nonetheless it is a blast
just the same.
Michael, Jesse, and I have been having the time of our
lives on the road, and naturally we found our way back into the studio
as it’s getting to be that time again… the coolest part though is
that for the first time we did a lot of the recording in one of our
home studios which made it a blast!! We’re working with a good old
friend named Jim Cooper right now and I’m actually going to be busting
out some vocals tomorrow on a couple of the tracks… of course we
will post some snipits soon for you guys to check out!!
After having a successful session in our own studio we have kind of
come to the decision that it may be time to do more of the same… and
with that in the back of my crazy head I decided to do something that
I hadn’t done in 10 years with a friend of mine. “REMODEL”. Now the
problem with such a thought is that I was doing the work with my buddy
and that I will work till I die and in an effort to get my studio
finished off we worked around 160 hours in 9 days to get it all done.
Yeah that’s right, about 18 hours a day, but it was worth it. By the
time it was done we had 2 closed in rooms, with new hard wood floors,
a new bathroom, tiled, new electrical with all direct grounds, and all
new acoustic paneling installed. Which leaves… all the trim, all
the painting, and all the cleaning up… which will probably be
happening for the next year… cause people we DESTROYED my basement.
Keep watching our “from our phones” section of the front page cause
I’m gonna take some pictures and post them today or tomorrow.
Honestly though I don’t remember the work being as hard when I was
framing houses back in ‘98. Oh well I’m feeling my age.
Then that leaves this weekend… the weekend that I got so sick that I
almost had to go to the hospital. Now I have to say that the last
time we played Fayetteville, NC (Which happens be kind of a hometown
to me) I was having horrible vocal trouble. Sinuses were jacked up
and I had to go see a doctor to get straightened out…. but I never
thought I would go back to Fayetteville and be MORE sick than before.
To be clear, my voice was fine, but I was not. I spent the whole
night on the bus asking our driver to pull over so I could throw up
and use the bathroom… NOT FUN. What’s craziest is that 3 hours
before bedtime I was F-I-N-E FINE (in the words of Aerosmith). So I
didn’t sleep all night, then I woke up and continued the sickness
straight to the hotel and then came showtime. And that’s when I
twittered my call for prayer. Honestly I’ve been REALLY sick in shows
before, but that night I was dead. I apologize to you guys in
Fayetteville because it was all I could do to close my eyes and just
try my best to keep standing in the same place. All that said it was
a God night in spite of my weakness and He was glorified! Thank you
again to all of you who pray for us and continue to pray for us and
keep your eyes peeled for more updates to come soon.
Blessings,
Jason

Talking With Michael
September, 2 20092 CommentsThere’s something cool about sitting on an airplane with my boy Michael knowing that I’m 1 hour away from seeing my beautiful wife and children that is super cool. Then to make it cooler Michael and I have something on our minds today. Seems that the big thought is the NEXT building429 record. It’s always cool to pick Mike’s brain because honestly he is definitely an amazing….. WAIT hold the fricken phone… Mike just showed me his iphone and it’s exactly 4:29!!! I know it’s stupid but you’d be amazed how often we look at our watches at exactly 4:29. Ok back to Michael’s brain. He’s one heck of a set of contact lenses… by that I mean that Michael tends to bring a LOT of clarity to my crazy hair brained thoughts. Think of it this way… Michael is the Editor in Chief of almost everything that Building429 does and me… well I’m a visionary… Idea man that’s my thang. Jesse, he’s the implementer and the encourager so we all have specific roles to play and this new record is something that we’re already knee deep in the process of deciding where we’re going. So where do we think we’re going???? Let’s just say that we’re going to land in a town called “Honesty”. We’re hoping to bring you guys the WHOLE story musically, lyrically and on a ministry level. These are the things that capture Michael’s and my imagination as we move toward the next record….. we are all leaning heavily toward using Jim Cooper and Tony Palacios on the next record as well… what does that mean for you guys… well it means the team that made the first Building429 record would be making the newest one too!!! Pretty doggone cool if you ask me!!
Ohh and on a sidenote we had an awesome conversation about new lighting for the fall tour!!! I know, I know that I’m majorly A.D.D.!! You know that you love that about me! But people blinking lights have to be the coolest thing you could possibly add to a show right???? I mean come on who doesn’t love an amazing lighting show?? That’s what I thought. We’re talking about some serious LED TUBES and some other strobes added to the show. 2 more mover lights and some new signage to really take the stage to another level. OHHHH you should also know that we are revamping a large portion of the video wall content, and we’re completely changing the set for the Promise Remains tour. So just when you think you’ve seen it all………… WE CHANGED IT AGAIN!!!!
Hmmm here’s another tidbit that I wanted to mention as I grow closer to the long awaited reunion with my family….. We sponsored 510 kids on the Canadian tour with Downhere which according to WORLD VISION CANADA is the Biggest August that world vision Canada has ever had in their history!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!! That’s right, the biggest month ever Praise the Lord!! So God is doing some super cool things. ————–
Ok weird bit of info…. If you ever see Michael in an airport or around an airplane just assume that he’s playing solitare on his iphone… I’ve never seen anyone get so sucked into a game as he is right now…. Hang on I’ll try to get his attention……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. Aha!!! Houston we have made contact… and today it’s not solitare today it’s…….. some weird word puzzle game.
Anyway… just wanted to say thank you for all of your prayers around the world. God is doing some great things around us these days and we are still eternally grateful for all of the years you’ve spent encouraging us to keep the faith and keep running to the finish line!!! This might be my last post for a while as I’m headed out to vacation, but if you want to follow.. you’ll be able to right up to the moment I throw my iphone in the ocean at Wrightsville beach in approximately 2 days, on twitter at http://twitter.com/axl_roy
Hmmm the plane is slowing down and I’m leaning forward so we’re getting close to the announcem……………………….. yep there it is…. And my children are so close that I can almost see them. God bless and I’ll catch you again in Oklahoma this weekend!!!
Peace,
Jason

Last Day Of Canada
September, 1 20095 CommentsIt’s the last day of the Canadian Tour and all the guys are worn out to say the least. Of course anytime you take off on a bus for as long as we’ve been out and specifically in another country things will go wrong… but interestingly enough God had his way of putting things in perspective. For instance… 2 days ago the bus air system broke down right?? Which meant that Ryan, Jon, and I had to figure out how to fix it. We spent the entire night at a place called Buses R Us while they tried to fix the bus. Eventually they admitted that they weren’t sure what was wrong so at 6am we headed to the hotel and tried to get some rest. At 7:30am we woke up and went back to the bus to make sure they weren’t messing around… their hourly rate was insane so we couldn’t let them mess around. We got there and they were working hard enough for us to feel good about the situation, so we headed to Tim Horton’s and then back to the hotel to lay down again. I laid down for 2 minutes when the phone rang and they told us that it would be ready in 30 minutes. BTW we had a 4 hour drive to the show that day and we were on an extreme time crunch so…. we hopped up and drove back to the bus yard where they proceeded to tell us that it was not going to be the original hourly rate, but double the hourly rate because of 2 people working. The first agreed upon rate was double the rate of anyone in the US to start with so you can imagine my frustration when it was 4 times the normal rate to get the bus back on the road. I argued and found that it was going to be a dead end especially if my frustration caused us to miss the show that night so I eventually paid the bill and we left to go pick up the guys and fly… I mean FLY to the next show. So far you’d think this day isn’t going well, but then it got worse…. ticket sales at this particular show were not amazing by any stretch…. the building was small and a sell out would’ve been pretty small too, but we loaded in as fast as possible, got set and then literally 20 minutes before doors we finally were done. NOW here’s the kicker. World Vision expects on average 3% of the people in a room to sponsor a child….. that night 26.4% of the people sponsored a child which was the highest number I have ever seen or even heard of in my career!!!! How amazing is that??? To God be the glory for the great things he has done….. which brings me to the real point of this blog.
Check out Acts 23-28:26
Great reading I highly recommend it… I’ve had a ton of fun reading lately in Act about this guy named Paul. Alright honestly who hasn’t heard about Paul before but this part of Paul’s life is extremely trying and I say that because it is the WORST thing that could possibly happen to someone. To be put in prison and have the key thrown away all the while never being guilty of anything. I mean this guy is in a cell for years waiting on justice. He goes before the Sanhedrin on trial and they don’t know what to do with him as He proclaims Jesus the son of God. Then he’s put on trial before Felix and He proclaims Jesus the son of God. Felix wants to please all people so he puts Paul in a cell and leaves him there for 2 years and finally is replaced by Festus. Festus wants to hear from the prisoner so Paul is tried again and proclaims Jesus the son of God. Festus has a friend named KING Agrippa who would like to hear the case and Paul proclaims Jesus the son of God yet again. Finally Paul gets sent to Rome and his ship gets shipwrecked on Malta. The chief official of the island comes to know that Jesus is the son of God. Finally Paul makes it to ROME where he preaches yet again. wheeew that was a mouth full.
Here’s the point. Sometimes the worst thing that could possibly happen to you is merely a tool that God will use to bring about the most amazing results you could imagine. Paul is taken up the ladder to the peak city of civilization all because he’s on TRIAL. WHICH would normally in our eyes leave us frustrated with God and with these “plans he has for us” All the time Satan tries to ruin the day, especially when you are actually on task and doing what God wants you to do…. but in every circumstance God gets the last laugh. So wherever you are whatever you’re going through remember these words. “If you’re crying out for mercy, if there’s no hope left at all If you’ve given everything you’ve got and you’re still about to fall HOLD ON!!! Because Our savior never fails!!”
Blessings,
Jason
